My name has changed. How do I update my name?

If your first or last name has changed since you filed the FAFSA®, change it with the Social Security Administration (SSA) first, by going to ssa.gov.

Once the change is processed, you’ll need to update your name on the official FAFSA® website (fafsa.gov). You’ll have to wait 1–3 days for the SSA to confirm that your name change matches their records.
