[FAFSA®] Why should I choose to be considered for Federal Work-Study? What if I decide later that I don’t want to work?

This allows you to keep your options open. You can decide later on that you don’t want this sort of job.

We recommend that, on the FAFSA®, you answer “yes” that you want to be considered for the work-study program. This just allows you to keep your options open. You can still decide later on that you don’t want this sort of job. You’re not committing to anything right now.

That’s because, if you get work-study money as part of your college financial aid package, you still need to actually apply for a work-study job and then work enough hours, to max out on the amount allotted to you. If you don’t want to work those hours, you don’t have to. You just won’t get the money.
