[FAFSA®] My tax forms include dollars and cents for the amounts, but I can't seem to enter decimal points. Should I round to the nearest dollar?

Yes, round to the nearest dollar.

You'll notice that, even though your tax forms might include dollar and cent amounts, you should not (and actually you can't enter cents into our version of the form.)

The FAFSA® asks for full dollar amounts, so instead, round them to the nearest dollar. If you've forgotten how to "round," just remember:

  • Ends with 50 cents or more --> Round up

  • Ends with 49 cents or less --> Round down

For example:

  • $1,300.73 rounds UP to $1301

  • $1,300.50 rounds UP to $1301

  • $1,300.49 rounds DOWN to $1300

  • $1,300.28 rounds DOWN to $1300
