A student ID number is issued by some schools as an identification number, unique to each student.

Student ID numbers are also sometimes listed on an identification card with the student's picture.

Why am I being asked to enter my student ID number?

We ask students to enter in a student identification number to help counselors identify which students might have a duplicate account when checking FAFSA® completions on the counselor FAFSA® dashboard. Duplicate accounts are sometimes created when students sign up for two Going Merry accounts, one with their personal email and another using their school email address.

Counselors are able to easily determine and confirm if a student's account is a duplicate if the student ID numbers on two separate accounts match.

How do I input or update my student ID number in my profile?

You may be asked at sign-up, or after you sign in, to enter your student ID number.

You can add or edit your student ID in your student profile.

To do that, go to your Profile here (or click Menu > then click Profile).

Add your school (if you don’t already have it listed).

If you have your school listed, click on your school’s name and a popup box will appear where you can enter your student ID number.

Enter your student ID number and hit "Save".

If your financial aid offer wasn't enough to cover your bill, we recommend you submit an appeal. Learn more about financial aid appeals here.

If you'll need a student loan to cover the rest, begin by researching the lender that will give you the best rate. Most private lenders allow you to answer a few questions risk-free and then get your estimated interest rate. You’re under no obligation to actually get the loan. We recommend checking with Earnest first. Get your rate estimate from Earnest here.
